Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 2cy: March 16 2003, Boulogne- sur-Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

New scapulars have been growing in in the lowest row of scapulars. The recently moulted scapulars show the typical ginger-tone of marinus second generation scapular centres. The slightly older scapulars have the centres turned greyish or completely white, contrasting with the dark brown anchor patterns. This is an example of 2cy GBBG with almost all tertials and wing-coverts still juvenile, but slightly worn. One single lesser covert has been replaced. By March, primary moult has still not started in 2cy birds.
