Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 3cy, May 17 2002, Le Portel - Boulogne sur Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

A bird which is actively moulting the median and lower lesser coverts. The difference between old second generation coverts and the fresh blackish feathers is very obvious. A central lesser covert is moulted as well and in the lower upper scapulars fresh black feathers are growing in. Note the rounded second generation primaries.
