Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) adult: September 30 2001, Le Portel - Boulogne sur Mer, France (50.42 N - 01.34 E).

Primary p6 is almost fully grown. Outer primary p10 (with the white tip merged with the mirror) still has to be shed. Note the pale iris and the missing outer greater coverts. The friendly facial expression and the relatively light built bill suggest a female.
