Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) 12cy NOO 0A04651 August 22 2002, Papegaaienbek, Maasvlakte, the Netherlands. (51.57N,04.03 E).

Adult GBBG with a Norwegian metal ring, ringed as pullus on 23 June 1991 at Sokndal, Rogaland, S. Norway (58° 23' 59N, 6° 10' 47E). Obviously, this bird is in wing-covert moult with the outer greater coverts shed, exposing the secondaries underneath. The old scapulars and wing-coverts appear brown hued, in contrast with the new all dark grey coverts and scapulars. The upper tertials are being replaced as well. Primary moult stage: p5 is just longer than p4 and in the outer primaries p8-p10 still have to be shed.
