Kumlien's Gull (kumlieni) 3cy, January 24 2012, St John's, Newfoundland, Canada. Picture: Bruce Mactavish.

Age 2nd winter: showing band on bill, limited number of grey scapulars and dark iris.

Primary category: --

Scapulars show a few adult-like grey feathers in the lower scapular region. Outer primaries almost white, with dark wedge at the centre; and primaries obviously at the pale end of the spectrum. Whole bird rather pale, including the washed-out buffish vermiculation of the coverts and tertials.
