Bulbuous bill. Juvenile plumage. Some similarity to Thayer's Gull, but WESTERN GULL (w. N. America) larger and bulkier with broad wings and stout, bulbous-tipped bill. Plumage generally darker and browner with black wingtips; upperwing lacks contrasting pale panel on inner primaries, and outer primaries solidly dark; tail solidly blackish.
