cachinnans plumages

Larus cachinnans 2CY 785H January 29 2013, Jakuševec-Zagreb, Croatia. Picture: ringing team Luka Jurinovic.

Orange 785H, ringed at Zagreb landfill. Difficult bird. Note strong resemblance to female 1W michahellis on the paler end of the spectrum: relatively extensive streaking on head for cachinnans, but also note blotchy club-patterned scapulars and 2nd gen coverts, ill Venetian blind effect on inner primaries, lack of apical spots, and michahellis-like tail pattern, with limited proximal pattern.

Lower images: orange 786H added to compare.
