Recoveries

Gull colony Bolshoye Boloto, Ivanovo Oblast, Russia (56°30'17.0"N 42°16'00.0"E).

Peat bog, wet swamp habitat, approx 100 km west of the town Nizjni Novgorod. The aerial view shows many man made ponds. The area is very inaccessible, breeding islands best reached by boat.

The map below shows the ring recoveries for Bolshoye Boloto birds in blue. Obviously, there is a strong westwards migration after breeding and its clear birds from this colony account for most of the records. This of course has also much to do with number of gulls ringed; at Bolshoye 148 birds have been ringed so far (2008-2013) of which 123 birds have colour rings.
