Photo 6778: YLG (L. michahellis) 1cy, October 01 2001, Le Portel, France. An individual much resembling the ringed individual from Switzerland, present the same day at the same spot (click the thumbnail in the right corner). Most of the scapulars were moulted some time ago, as can be told from the pale bleached bases (which are greyish in the most recently moulted feathers). All the wing-coverts are still juvenile and in this respect this individual very much resembles graellsii LBBG. The first generation coverts, especially the inner ones are very worn. The fresh scapulars have a buffish centre, with an anchor patterned black marking and a white fringe. In this individual, the visible outer primaries (p4-p10) are rather dark, both on the visible inner-web and outer-web. To get an idea of the size of the pale window, see image 7489. Note the rather pale shins in this individual.
