Yellow-legged Gull (L. michahellis) 1cy, September
20 2002, Boulogne-sur-Mer, France.
A 1cy Yellow-legged Gull with all the
wing-coverts, tertails and tail-feathers still juvenile. The scapulars have been
replaced for second generation feathers, except the lowest row of lower
scapulars.
Note the strong and powerful bill, the slopy
forehead and pale pinkish legs. The tertials have an extensive dark centre and a
white narrow fringe without obvious notching. The lesser and lower lesser
coverts show this same simple pattern, lacking deep notching.
