photo 0565: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2cy, April 30 2003, Etaples, NW France (50.42N,1.34E). A 2cy michahellis from
late-April. This bird obviously started the complete moult (second
pre-basic moult), as it shows a large gap in the median and lower lesser
covert bars. Fresh feathers are still not visible -the complete moult just
started- and the wing-covert panel shows a mix of abraded juvenile
feathers (e.g. the central and outer greater coverts),
broad barred old second generation feathers (e.g. the innermost greater
coverts and inner median coverts) and missing feathers in the outer median and lower lesser
covert bars. In the lower upper scapulars, fresh third generation
scapulars have been moulted, which show a grey base.
