Photo 9987: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2cy, April 19 2002, Etaples, NW France (50.42N,1.34E). The average April 2cy michahellis in plumage
and jizz. This is a 2cy michahellis with tertial #1 missing,
tertials #2-3 have been replaced for second generation feathers, the lower
tertials are still juvenile. Greater coverts #1-4 are second generation
feathers with # 3 showing a grey base, like the tertials. The inner
greater coverts show an anchor pattern on the tip and looking closer at
the state of wear in the fringes, these inner greater coverts may have
been included in the partial autumn moult (post-juvenile moult). Median
coverts #1-9 were included in the post-juvenile moult. Six lower lesser
coverts and seven lesser coverts were also moulted last autumn. The complete tail and all primaries are
still juvenile. The legs are pale and the orbital ring starts to turn
reddish. |
