photo 5548: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2cy,
July 26 2001, Le Portel, NW France.
A huge, powerful individual, probably a
male, resembling L. marinus.
Active moult is in progress in the 3rd
generation scapulars. The tertials have #1-4 new, #5 growing and #6 is
missing. The primary score: p7 is growing and p10 is still juvenile. Many
of the coverts appear to be of the same age. This is a rather pale
individual, lacking the obvious grey adult-like scapulars. Sometimes the
new 3rd generation scapulars appear very 2nd
generation-like.
