photo 1326: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2cy, June 14 2002, Etaples, NW France. Primary moult stage: P5 has been shed and P6-P10 are still juvenile. Most of the median and lower lesser coverts have been renewed. The inner greater coverts are replaced as well. The central and outer greater coverts and the upper tertials have been dropped recently. The secondaries underneath the greater coverts are visible. This individual is developing into a bird with a grey "saddle" and barred wing-coverts by the end of June, early July. The small size and friendly facial expression indicate its a female. A few lowest scapulars have been dropped, but almost all other scapulars were moulted to new grey feathers. The soft parts still look immature; the iris and bill are black, the legs are pale flesh pink, as can be seen in most 2cy michahellis.
