photo 1345: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 2cy, June 14 2002, Etaples, NW France.

This individual's primary moult stage: P6 has been shed and P7-P10 are still juvenile. Most of the outer median coverts have been renewed, but note the old second generation inner median coverts which are still in place. Note also the old second generation feathers in the lower rows of the lesser coverts. The upper tertials have been replaced recently. The outer lesser coverts and most of the greater coverts are still old, a mix of very abraded juvenile feathers and old second generation feathers. Most of the upper scapulars and upper lower scapulars have been moulted to grey feathers, some with a pronounced black shaft streak. The tail is still juvenile and the bare parts still look immature; the iris is dark, the bill is pale based with a dark tip and the legs are pale flesh pink, as can be seen in most 2cy michahellis.
