photo 5281: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 3cy, July 07 2001, IJmuiden, the Netherlands. A 3cy michahellis showing pale yellow legs, a yellow bill, a yellow iris, a red gonydeal spot and dark grey upper-parts (mantle and scapular region). The orbital ring is red. This is an example of an individual showing delayed moult: the scapulars still contain quite some barred immature feathers and the wing-coverts lack a clear grey bar on the median wing-coverts. Note however the growing uppermost tertial and the obvious different pattern of the second and third tertial, compared to the brown-based lower tertials. The old outer lesser coverts in the carpal edge are still brown and the abraded tail-feathers show a broad black tail-band.
