photo 5602: Yellow-legged Gull michahellis
group, July 27 2001, Etaples,
France (50.42N,1.34E).
Left is a 4cy with P4 growing and P7-P10 old. Note the primary mirrors on
P9 and P10 and note the
outer secondaries which are exposed to their base now all the outer greater and
median coverts have been shed.
At the
centre is a landing 3cy michahellis with P8-P10 old and P5 at the length of
P4 (a few
inches to go). This bird lacks a mirror on P10 -of course- and the secondaries show
extensive brown centres. Another 3cy bird can be found in the far right of the
picture, a bird raising the wings, with P5 new and P8 still old. This bird too
lacks a mirror on P10.
