(2 images) Yellow-legged
Gull michahellis E274
adult, October 17 2002, Scheveningen, the
Netherlands (51.33N,03.25E).
Primary P6 is fully grown and P7 is slightly
longer than P6. The old P10 is still present which is a very delayed moult stage
for adult Yellow-legged Gulls in NW Europe. This is a very large, powerful bird
(probably a male) with the legs very pale yellow and the orbital ring red. The
bill is banana yellow with no red on the upper mandible. All wing-coverts and
tertials are present. For the last few years this michahellis is present
at Scheveningen to finish the primary moult. In winter the bird is gone.
