cachinnans plumages

Larus cachinnans 1CY HCL23 August 10 & October 10 2015, Kampen, the Netherlands & Kent, UK. Picture: Cor Fikkert & Michael Southcott.

Yellow HCL23 and metal ring from Kiev, Ukraine, L-009123, cachinnans ringed as pullus on May 20 2015 at Yavonov, Lviv Oblast, (westernmost) Ukraine.

This map shows the overland estimated direct route from the natal colony Javonov to the location Kampen, where this bird was photographed by Cor. There must have been an incredible urge to continue the journey, as it surely passed many good oportunities to find food (together with many cachinnans when it flew over Poland and eastern Germany). Early August, and then already this far westwards.

Closer look of the colony in the large lake just east of town Javonov in Lviv Oblast, westmost Ukraine. The lake in the foreground has that breeding island, which holds a large population (see below).
Photo of the island: by Lunyk.

Now 1650 KM's from the natal colony.

Only single rear long scap still juvenile, other scaps replaced. Several wing-coverts included in post-juvenile moult.
