cachinnans plumages

Larus cachinnans hybrid X007 1CY, October 05 2016, Katwijk, the Netherlands. Picture: Mars Muusse.

Yellow X007 and metal DEH Hiddensee EA-202407 ringed as pullus on June 07 2016 in a mixed colony of Laußig, eastern Duitsland (51,34N 12,38E). Male.

Earlier recoveries:
August 31 2016, Katwijk, the Netherlands.

Probably both argentatus (for sure) and cachinnans involved. Voice was like cachinnans (although not a full match) but many traits are in line with argentatus. See also HERE (in Dutch).
More Herring Gull than Caspian Gull, due to stubby bill with strong gonys angle, square head like in Herring with quite some streaking on the crown, late moult in scapulars where the last replaced feathers again show a bold anchor shaped pattern on a buffish base (not grey without transversal bars), post stamp notching on the tertials, and this pattern repeated on the greater coverts (where Caspian normally show 'smooth' pale fringes.
