Larus cachinnans hybrid 2CY PLG DN-25436 July - August 2012 & February 2013, Deponie Pohlsche Heide - Minden, Germany (52°23'05N, 08°46'45E). Picture: Armin Deutsch.

Metal ring from Poland, PLG DN-25436, ringed as pullus on May 31 2011 in Mietkowski, Mietkow, SW Poland (50°56' N, 16°35' E). Southern Poland, the Jankowice area has an ancient domination of cachinnans breeding along main rivers at islands and in gravel pits. Surveys on breeding birds showed single Larus michahellis also breed in these colonies (illustated by a ringed female from Italy); and from the west, occasionally Larus argentatus from eastern germany may enter the region (confirmed by ring reports).

Very similar to 1st summer Larus michahellis, note bill size and shape, angular head shape, bold pattern on coverts. This combination probably places the bird outside 'pure cachinnans', unfortunately no details on parents. Complete moult P6/P9.

below: together with Larus michahellis adult.

below: like in Larus michahellis, this bird has a single dark sub-terminal line reaching outerweb of R6.

More and more similar to michahellis, inclusing boldly barred new GC and pale iris in 2nd winter. Note also winter head with fine streaking on crown.

No mirror on second gen P10.
