Cachinnans - nest Lelystad 011
General remarks:
- Eggs: Volume measured by Stonehouse (1964) and Spaans & Spaans (1975), which make comparison possible with data from Texel (Camphuysen pers comm 16.04.2020).
- Nest 011 positioned below red-white beacon 59 at head of breakwater 2. One parent (male) uses beacon as look-out. Many Spoonbills in this section of the colony.
- Certainty on ID in 2020, both parents are Caspian Gull cachinnans.
- Certainty on ID in 2021, both parents are Caspian Gull cachinnans.
Female probably different bird from last year, it has less black in wingtip ( maybe due to ageing, though difference is obvious).
Male is the same bird.

15-05-2021 |
Many Spoonbill nests in this section, including an old empty nest close to flag 11. Have they hatched and do they already hide in vegetation? |
|
Camilla Dreef has placed flags for her Spoonbill nests in this section. Perhaps she has moved our flag a little? |
|
Also present: gull nest with 2 hatching eggs + 1 egg with small cracks. But is it the right cachinnans nest? |
|
