Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)

Herring Gull 2cy, July 18 2013, Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

Active moult / complete moult in summer months: P5/P8. P6 about halfway its final length.

Probably active moult in tail as well. Central tail-feathers missing/growing, probably R5 still present. Secondaries still juvenile.

Many coverts renewed. Missing central greater coverts expose base on secondaries lying underneath. Note greater covert row have two moult waves, one starting at outer feathers and another from inside.
