Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)

(last update: February 11, 2013)

Herring Gull 4CY, July 31 2015, Noordwijk, the Netherlands.

No ring, no provenance on origin nor on exact age. However, showing many features of local argenteus rather than Scandinavian argentatus, and set of characteristics indicate this age.

Pale silvery grey upperparts. Outer primaries old without mirror on P10. Greater primary coverts with brown centres. Much black on bill. Central GC shed, exposing old adult-like secondaries underneath (grey centre with bold white tip).
