Herring Gull (argentatus & argenteus)

(last update: February 11, 2013)

Herring Gull 4cy, May 05 2013, Brouwersdam, the Netherlands.

No active moult P1-P10 still present.

Sub-adult, no ring, no provenance on origin and age but probably 4CY.
Aged by vestiges of immaturity, most noticable dark markings in centres of the greater primary coverts, in combination with adult-like pattern on central primaries. In particular note clear mirror on P10 in combination with extensive streaking on secondaries and brown in coverts, which indicate 4CY bird. Black spot in tail.
