Yellow-legged Gull michahellis 1CY, September 20 2002, Le Portel, NW France.
1CY Yellow-legged Gull which shows extensive post-juvenile moult in the right wing (and in the field mirrored in the left wing as well). The tertials and all the greater coverts are still juvenile. Moult in the median and lower lesser coverts is in progress, with several feathers missing and new second generation coverts growing or replaced. Most of these new coverts can be found in the inner covert region (the feathers which are worn in juvenile plumage in August), as is commonly shown in 1CY michahellis.
In all respects an average michahellis with extensive dark centres in the tertials and dark outer greater coverts.
