Yellow-legged Gull michahellis sub-adult, January 02 2011, Mamaia, Romania. Picture: Chris Gibbins.

Showing relatively less black (compared to Spanish micha) primary pattern in eastern michahellis. Pale tongue on P10 running down to halfway the innerweb's edge (and note clear abrupt angle), no band on P10 and broad band on P5. Relatively broad dark band on bill and black on centres of primary covertsindicate sub-adult bird.

Interesting bird with an all white P10 tip (which can been found regularly in the Black Sea population of michahellis), a large P9 mirror (like it is in many cachinnans), and this rectangular cut on the P10 tongue, which is often regarded as a cachinnans trait as well. Also, the orbital ring is not as intense coral red, as it is in most michahellis. Unfortunately... no ring no glory.
